T.J. Moore Reaches 33 Straight Games With a Catch as Clemson Shuts Out Charleston Southern

Clemson's first shutout in five years came with another milestone for its No. 1 receiver. T.J. Moore caught two passes in Saturday's 37 to 0 win over Charleston Southern at Memorial Stadium, stretching his streak of consecutive games with a reception to 33. That ties Antonio Williams, who did it from 2022 to 2024, for the seventh longest run in program history.

It was not the box score Moore circles on his calendar. But the most dependable number of his Clemson career held up again, the same way it has every Saturday since the Key West native arrived in Death Valley.

The Stat Line

Moore finished with two receptions for 9 yards on an afternoon when Clemson spread its completions among 15 different receivers. Through six games, the junior has 27 catches for 244 yards and a touchdown this season, and he now owns 124 career receptions for 1,732 yards.

He is one of only three active Tigers with at least 100 career catches, joining Bryant Wesco Jr. and Tyler Brown.

Key Moments

Climbing the list. Moore entered the day tied with Perry Tuttle at 32 straight games with a catch, the eighth longest streak in school history. His first reception against the Buccaneers moved him past Tuttle and alongside Williams at No. 7.

The first look near the goal line. When Clemson got close in the first half, the coaching staff went to Moore. The Tigers called his number on four one on one shots in the end zone before halftime. None of them connected, but the play calls said plenty about who Clemson trusts when the field shrinks and the matchup is one receiver against one defender.

A vote of confidence from the head coach. Dabo Swinney did not dance around it after the game. “Not a great day for T.J. today,” Swinney said. “He’ll bounce back.” Swinney also named Moore and Wesco as “great players” while discussing the touchdown chances Clemson left on the field, a reminder of how much the program expects from its top two receivers.

The Bigger Picture

Everything else went Clemson's way. The Tigers scored on each of their first five possessions, piled up 438 total yards, and held Charleston Southern to 76. The Buccaneers went 0 for 11 on third down, Clemson recorded a season high 13 tackles for loss, and the shutout was the program's first since a 30 to 0 win over South Carolina in 2021. Nolan Hauser added a career long 59 yard field goal, the second longest in school history, and the win was Swinney's 191st, tying Nick Saban and Bob Stoops for the second most victories through 20 seasons in FBS history.

Clemson improved to 4 and 2 overall and 2 and 1 in the ACC at the midpoint of the season. Swinney called it a big step on doing the routine things better while making clear the Tigers still have another step to take.

Moore will be central to that next step. He arrived as a five star recruit out of Tampa Catholic, caught 45 passes for 651 yards and five touchdowns as a true freshman, then followed with 52 catches for 837 yards and four scores as a sophomore on his way to third team All ACC honors. He has caught at least one pass in every game of his college career, and the play calls near the goal line on Saturday showed that Clemson still wants the ball in his hands in its biggest moments.

Looking Ahead

There is no bye left on the schedule. Clemson opens a stretch of five straight ACC games next Saturday, Oct. 24, when Virginia Tech visits Memorial Stadium for a night kickoff on ESPN or ESPN2. A trip to Florida State follows, with the rivalry game against South Carolina waiting at the end of the regular season.

One catch against the Hokies would give Moore 34 consecutive games with a reception and move him past Williams on Clemson's all time list. Swinney expects a bounce back. So does everyone who has watched T.J. Moore answer every Saturday for three seasons.
